Ekta Kapoor's much-celebrated show Kumkum Bhagya, starring Shabir Ahluwalia and Sriti Jha, is one of the most popular shows on Television and has always managed to gain the position on the top ten shows of BARC’s (Broadcast Audience Research Council India) list of most watched shows in the country. It never fails to keep its audience hooked with its numerous twists and turns. Recently, the show took a leap of more than 20 years after Abhi and Pragya’s separation. And there were also rumours doing the rounds that the show will off air post leap. However, dismissing the rumours, Shabir in a recent interview with Midday, said, "I don't know who is spreading these rumours. Kumkum is my baby; the show has given me everything. I am still on air, trying my best to entertain the audience. Hopefully, they will lap up what's in store after the generation leap." Fans have witnessed endless loops of separation and reunion of the couple 'Abhi' and 'Pragya'. Recently, when it was reported that Abhi and Pragya will seperate post leap, irked fans took to Twitter to troll the show and slam the character of ‘Abhi’, calling him a spineless husband. Talking about it, Shabir commented, "One doesn't get bored as long as the story is following a natural progression. There may be days when you don't agree with a track. But then you understand that in a long-running show, these tracks help the storyline move forward. Everything falls into place when you see the larger perspective. It's not easy to tell a story for five years. Kumkum is one of the best shows I have done to date." Recently, when Kumkum Bhagya completed 5 years, Ekta, Shabir and Sriti took to the photo-sharing app to express their joy. While Ekta wrote, "Thanku TEAM KUMKUMBHAGYA! All actors directors writers channel n everyone concerned ESP THE AUDIENCE!," Sriti's caption read, "Yes I am going to obsess and be a joyful emotional mess about this 😘😘😘" and Shabir had just put three hearts in his caption. Talking about his equation with his co-star Sriti Jha over the last five years, Shabir told the daily, "It feels as if we completed our primary education together (laughs). She is a fantastic actor and a great human being. Sriti has been one of the nicest co-stars I've had."

Bankrolled by Balaji Telefilms, KumKum Bhagya was first premiered in April 2014, which is an adaptation of the Jane Austen novel ‘Sense and Sensibility’. The show was about a middle-class Punjabi family where a mother wants to see both her daughters to be happily married but given the chemistry of Abhi and Pragya, the show soon became a love story.
