Tonight’s the night when the endless wait for many fans of one of the first medical-based dramas on Indian Television, Sanjivani: A Medical Boon, will end. The sequel of the original show, Sanjivani 2, starring Surbhi Chandna and Namit Khanna as the lead pair, accompanied by Sanjivani alumni Mohnish Bahl, Gurdeep Kohli and Sayantani Ghosh and Ronit Bose Roy, will be seen as the central cast of the show. And from what we saw in the first episode, here’s what we thought of the sequel. Sanjivani 2: Surbhi Chandna and Namit Khanna’s Show Gets a Charming Musical for a Trailer (Watch Video)
The Storyline:
Almost all of the characters are introduced in the first episode itself.
The episode starts with Dr Sid saving a poor boy when he falls into the water. But with the boy’s condition being critical, Sid lies and calls in Sanjivani’s chopper service to get the kid to the hospital. Throughout the episode, Dr Sid is seen getting into trouble to help poor patients at Sanjivani. Namit Khanna’s character Sid comes across as emotional, tactful and jugaadu doctor with a heart of gold. Basically the hot, cool and most good looking third-year resident that the hospital can boast of. Meanwhile, first-year resident Dr Ishani is introduced. Surbhi Chandna’s character Dr Ishani is introduced, but Ishani has a backstory about how and why she is at Sanjivani. She is a strict, by the rule book doctor who is stringent about following rules, but also bends them when a patient’s life is at risk. She has two brief interactions with Sid and thereon begins their takkar ki dushmani. It is also revealed that Ishani does not wish for her full name to be revealed to Sanjivani. Doctor Shashank Gupta walks into Sanjivani with an air of confidence and compassion and is shown to be loved and respected by everyone. He believes that a patient’s life is more important than hospital remuneration and fees. But (spoiler alert) it is soon revealed that he is suffering from a brain tumour and has frequent pain episodes. And enjoying seeing Shashank in pain is Dr Vardhaan, whose ideologies are the exact opposite to that of Shashank’s. Dr Vardhaan believes that with it is only with money earned from treating patients, that Sanjivani can become even bigger and even better. It also comes across as Dr Vardhaan wanting to take Shashank’s position over and can be is manipulative best.
We get to see a small glimpse of Dr Anjali, who is ambitious as ever but also insecure, a fact that Dr Vardhaan takes advantage of very frequently.
Dr Juhi is shown in some precap stills but is not introduced full-fledged. But from the rushes that we have seen, there seems to be some deep connection, a fact that is not appreciated by Shashank’s daughter Anjali.
Review:
Yay!
The treatment so far in the first episode was great. Right from the chopper scenes to scenes from the operating table, it can be said with confidence that a lot of detail has been put into detailing.
In an age where the pace of TV shows matter, Sanjivani 2 is fast-paced. With scenes not being dragged to death, it makes for an interesting watch.
Nay!
It’s too soon for us to comment on what we did not like in the show, based on the first episode. However, the makers run a huge risk in terms of content, considering the fact that the show will be compared to Sanjivani: A Medical Boon and Dill Mill Gayye!
Our Final Verdict!
This time around, Sanjivani 2 will be a mature drama which will be all about the big boy stuff, like inter-hospital politics, corporatisation of the medical business and much more… which could make for an interesting watch and we are eager to find out more. We also like the fact that the show shoes potential to stand out from amongst the rona-dhona kinda shoes on the tube currently.
