Rajesh Puri found himself in a terrifying situation when he was targeted in a suspected kidnapping attempt. Reportedly, he had been lured to Delhi on September 8 under the pretence of attending an award ceremony where he was to be the chief guest. The invitation, received from someone named Shivam, proved to be a carefully laid trap. In conversation with ETimes TV, Rajesh Puri, who narrowly escaped a kidnapping attempt, revealed the scammers paid him Rs 35,000. He also received a return ticket for September 9 and was asked to provide photos for event posters and prepare a speech. Suspiciously, no official invitation was ever sent.

Puri, recalling his recent ordeal in Delhi, revealed that two men at the airport met him. “They took me in a taxi, and after about an hour, they stopped and transferred my luggage into the car. The new car had no license plate, and the driver wore a mask, which raised my suspicions. Despite the dire circumstances, Rajesh Puri managed to escape unharmed. The actor revealed that he persuaded his kidnappers of his influential connections in Delhi, which was crucial to his release. The kidnappers eventually stopped at a dhaba 12 kilometres from Meerut, where one of them admitted the truth and told Rajesh to leave. As per reports, after the ordeal, another kidnapper reached out to inform Rajesh that the plan involved taking him to a remote location to demand a ransom of INR 1-2 crore, based on a false claim that Rajesh owed INR 35 lakh to the mastermind behind the plot.

For the uninitiated, Rajesh Puri is recognized for his work on notable projects such as Hum LogJaane Bhi Do Yaaro, and Saath Nibhaana Saathiya.
