While most of Alt Balaji’s shows have their set loyal audience, who eagerly await their daily dose of dramatic viewing experience, Vikas Gupta’s offering to the OTT platform in the form of Puncchbeat, has been one much-awaited project. The show first made it to the news after Priyank Sharma’s stint in Bigg Boss 11 came to an end. And then over the course of 2017, Vikas Gupta revealed the rest of the cast of the show, which comprises of Priyank Sharma as Rahat, Siddharth Sharma as Ranbir, Harshita Gaur as Divyanka and Khushi Joshi as Padmini. Ekta and Vikas released posters and introduced their characters after which the developments regarding the show have been kept under wraps. And after making fans wait for almost a year, the makers have released the first trailer which despite Ekta refuting was not a spin-off of KJo’s SOTY, looked like it.

Right from the opening shot of the trailer, to the visuals, while they all are pretty larger than life, they strongly remind us of Karan Johar’s Student of The Year, even the font that has been used in the trailer for the introductions of their actors and characters, not to mention the love triangle between Siddharth, Harshita and Priyank’s characters. Nevertheless, the trailer has us excited and eagerly awaiting February 14. Bigg Boss 11 Fame Priyank Sharma Rushes To Have an Urgent Surgery!
Does Puncchbeat feel like another version of Student of The Year? Ekta however, feels differently. A few months back when the lady was bombarded on social media for adapting SOTY on the web space, she’d tweeted to good friend Karan Johar and also went ahead to seek his blessings as he was the ‘God’ of the genre. And the latter had blessed the show too.
As for performances, while we know of Harshita's acting chops already, the glimpses of Khushi, Priyank and Siddharth impress us.
However, as much as we are not convinced that Puncchbeat IS NOT another version of SOTY, we are awaiting the streaming of the web-series to actually see for ourselves. What are your views on the trailer? Did you guys also feel like you were watching a Student Of The Year Adaptation? Do leave in your views below.
