POCSO Case Filed Against Ekta Kapoor: Legal Troubles for ‘Czarina of Television’ Over Vulgar Depictions of Minors in ‘Gandii Baat’

‘Czarina of Television’ Ekta Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, are facing legal troubles as a case has been registered against them under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. According to reports, the complaint arises from an episode in season six of the OTT platform ALTBalaji’s web series Gandii Baat, which allegedly depicted obscene scenes involving minor girls. The complaint specifies that obscene content featuring minor girls was streamed on ALTBalaji between February 2021 and April 2021. The FIR has been filed under various sections, including the POCSO Act, 2012, sections 13 and 15, along with the Information Technology Act, 2000, section 67(a), and the Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, sections 292, 293 and 295 (a). The complaint highlights that the series not only included explicit scenes but also disrespected revered figures and saints by incorporating cigarette advertisements, causing emotional distress to the complainant. The complaint was lodged by a local citizen at the MHB police station in Borivali, Mumbai, following recent judicial comments regarding the production of obscene films involving children. The police are now conducting further investigation into this case. As of now, Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor have not released any official statements regarding the matter.
