Monalisa set the internet on fire when news about her landing a role on a daily soap did the rounds and the former Bigg Boss 10 contestant confirmed it. The show revolves around a daayan who has returned to seek revenge from a family after 18 years. She also sucks the age and soul out of people to stay young. So I watch a lot of Doctor Who (It's a sci-fi show all you guys HAVE TO WATCH!) and I have seen the whole soul sucking bit when the dementors got to Harry Potter and Sirius. This is nothing like that but it's not that bad either. Sorry but I had to make that reference!
But enough about the antagonist. After a shot of Mohana, the daayan, claiming her victim, the story moves takes a leap of 18 years in a family that had killed Mohana once. Vaideshwi, the woman of the house is an emotional and superstitious one, who wants to get her son married to a woman who has a certain mark on her body. Her son is not even 21-years-old but he has to get married before a certain time before his days get inauspicious. Harsh Rajput plays the son, Ansh (also the main lead), in this one who is quite the badass but with sanskaar. Check out the promo of Nazar here if you haven't already!
For some reason, every time he makes an entry of sorts a revamped version of Freddie Mercury's We Will Rock You starts playing. If I wasn't a fan of the musician, I would have found this funny but it is kind of humiliating because the actor has literally no expressions on his face. It is also revealed that both the kids were adopted and the scene is a lot like the one from Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum. You know when Shah Rukh Khan finds out he is adopted and Jaya Bachchan asks him to hug her, the scene is exactly like that music included.
There are just so many rip-offs and cliches that you'll instantly be put off by it. There is also a scene where Ansh races with one of his rivals in college, that scene where you show the badassery of the main lead, and they are looking into each other's eyes with hatred.
Here's a glimpse of that scene!
Yay!
- Monalisa aka Antara Biswas is convincing and will give you the chills. Sometimes.
- The makers have stuck to the basic myths and beliefs about witches making it very relatable to the mass
- The VFX is quite good, too
Nay!
- Harsh Rajput needs to work on emoting better
- Makers have picked up songs and scenes from different films, shows and albums which is not pleasant at all
- If you compare this to other shows of the same genre, this one does not live up to your expectations
- The plot is too predictable
Final Verdict
Had the show been written well, I would have definitely recommended it but it is too predictable and well, at the cost of sounding too harsh, boring. Watch it if you are a fan of Monalisa because apart from her, there is nothing worth watching in the show. Tell us what you think in the comments below and stay tuned with us for more.
