Los Angeles: Moana star Auli'i Cravalho will topline Netflix's new musical comedy Sorta Like a Rock Star. The film will be directed by Brett Haley, best known for films such as The Hero and Hearts Beat Loud, the streaming giant said in a statement. Cravalho, 18, will play a teenage girl who, despite her difficult circumstances, is preternaturally optimistic about the world and her place in it. The young actor broke out on the Hollywood scene after voice starring in Disney's 2016 musical animated feature Moana. She currently features in NBC series Rise. Sorta Like a Rock Star will begin filming in October. It will be produced by Gotham Group's Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Lee Stollman; Temple HIll Entertainment's Marty Bowen and Isaac Klausner. Jonathan Montepare will serve as an executive producer.
