As the duo ventured the terrains of the Jim Corbett National Park, PM Modi shared several stories from his life especially from his childhood and school time.
India on Monday, August 12, saw the unexplored side of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a nature lover. The Indian premier appeared on a special show on 'Man Vs Wild with Bear Grylls' on the Discovery channel. As the duo ventured the terrains of the Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand, PM Modi shared several stories from his life especially from his childhood and school time. At the start of the show, Grylls expressed concerns from PM Modi as there were wild animals present in the national park. However, the Prime Minister said, "I believe we shouldn’t consider this place as dangerous. If we challenge Nature, everything can become a threat, even humans. On the other hand, if we co-operate with nature, then she also co-operates with us."
During a walk on the expansive terrain, PM Modi and Bear Grylls came across the elephant dung. To which, PM laughed as Bear Grylls recalled an episode in which he pinched out the juice from the mammal's dung by squeezing it. To cross a river in the national park, Man vs Wild host asked PM Modi to sit in a makeshift raft while he pushed it. Grylls couldn't sit as the raft could capsize due to their weights. After crossing, the duo shared a cup of tea and PM Modi told Grylls about 'Tulsi vivah'.
Recalling his earlier life, PM Modi told the survival expert that he was born in Gujarat's Vadnagar and led a simple life. He told that he studied from a government school in the village. When Grylls asked about if he was a good student, the Prime Minister joked and said he "cannot say that he was a good student". The Prime Minister also shared that he used to help his father, not because of money but he loved doing it. He told that he used to assist his father in making tea on the railway platform.
At the end of the episode, Bear Grylls thanked PM Narendra Modi for taking part in the adventure. Hailing the Prime Minister as a "hero", Grylls said, "He is cold, he is wet, but he is a hero. Well done". PM Modi also hoped that Man Vs Wild episode will spark a discourse of environment and wildlife conservation, especially in India.
