Main Maayke Chali Jaaungi is one show that has got feminism right from the first episode itself. There's a lot of irony and it's quite entertaining. Srishti Jain plays the role of Jaya, who is a wedding planner. She does all these crazy things to organise weddings. The groom is stuck in traffic so she literally leaves the venue in her scooty, stops it where the traffic begins and climbs on cars to reach the wedding van. She then escorts the groom to the wedding venue and gets them married herself because the pandit leaves till the time they reach. Also, she manages to distract the groom's family into playing ANTAKSHARI while she just takes the groom to get him married.

What kind of a family is this? Why are they playing antakshari when they are about to miss their own son's wedding? Why is nobody else getting out of the van and finding ways to make it to the wedding venue? All of these questions consumed me for the first couple of minutes. Now for the irony. The wedding planner's mother, Satyadevi, is a divorce lawyer. Neelu Vaghela plays her mother and unlike what we saw in the promos, she is not at all anti-marriage. She believes in parting ways rather than spending worthless time in trying to make a bad marriage work. In fact, she herself gets two of her daughters divorced after they are asked to quit their careers by their in-laws.

Not to mention, she is quite the feminist and you'll love her. Neelu completely owned the show in the first episode of Main Maayke Chali Jaaungi and I'm actually looking forward to watching more of her in the show. We saw a glimpse of Namish Taneja, who belongs to the family where Jaya is planning her next wedding. Of course, there are going to be a lot of cliches. Not to mention, Neelu's lines have been written quite beautifully and to the point.

Yay!

- Neelu Vaghela's performance tops everything

- Again, Neelu's dialogues have been written really well

- The show gets feminism on point and it's a must watch

- Satyadevi's equation with her daughters is quite progressive

Nay!

- There is not a lot of humour, not as much as the promo promised

- Certain scenes are blown out of proportion (the ones I mentioned in the first two paragraphs)

- The start is a little too slow and dragged for no reason

- The plot is a little predictable and promises too many cliches.

Final Verdict

The show and quite a lot of scenes are quite progressive, Satyadevi's equation with her daughters especially. She has no qualms in getting them married if they are happy with it but will not let them be suppressed by the societal ideologies of how a wife or a daughter-in-law is supposed to be. This is definitely going to be worth a watch. What are your thoughts on this? Tell us in the comments below and stay tuned with us for more.
