The much-awaited sixteenth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati premiered on August 12 with a heartfelt start by host Amitabh Bachchan. Overwhelmed by the enduring love and support from the audience, Bachchan expressed his gratitude before introducing the contestants. Bengaluru-based HR professional Utkarsh Baxi was the first contestant to sit on the hot seat. While displaying commendable knowledge, Utkarsh's journey ended at INR 25 lakh question, which tested his familiarity with Mahabharat. ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 16’: Amitabh Bachchan Fulfills a Sweet Request From Contestant Dipali Soni, Records a Customised Caller Tune for Her (Watch Promo).

The INR 25 lakh question stumped Utkarsh. It asked which god gifted Amba a garland, promising the wearer would kill Bhishma. Options were Lord Shiva, Kartikeya, Vishnu and Vayu. Utkarsh used the 'Video Call a Friend' lifeline, with his friend suggesting Lord Shiva. Unsure, Utkarsh then opted for the 'Double Dip' lifeline, getting two attempts. He first chose Shiva and then Vayu, both incorrect. Thus, Utkarsh's KBC journey ended with a near-miss at the INR 25 lakh mark. ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 16’: What Is Super Sawaal? The right answer to the Mahabharat question was Lord Kartikeya. Amitabh Bachchan explained, "After intense penance, Lord Kartikeya appeared before Amba in his six-faced form and presented her with a garland, claiming that whoever wore it could defeat Bhishma. Since no one was willing, he placed it on a pole. Later, Amba, reborn as Shikhandi, donned the garland and killed Bhishma." Due to his incorrect answer, Utkarsh ultimately left with INR 3.20 lakh.

The quiz show KBC 16 airs on Sony TV and streams live on Sony LIV at 9 PM IST (Indian Standard Time) from Monday to Friday.
