Television actor Karan Oberoi was arrested by Mumbai police in connection with an alleged rape case on Monday (May 6). The actor was produced in the Andheri Court after an FIR was filed by the victim (a woman from Oshiwara). Karan, who has been taken into police custody till May 9, broke down into tears during the court proceedings on Monday (May 6). Also, a non-cognisable complaint (NC) was lodged by the woman against Karan in October 2018, where she accused him of using her financially. Talking about the whole incident, Sailesh Pasalwar, Senior Police Inspector, Oshiwara Police Station, told Bombay Times, "Karan has been charged with rape. He has also been accused of filming the act and demanding money from the victim, and threatening to release the video if she didn’t pay up." For the uninitiated, the actor was arrested on charges of rape and blackmail by a fashion designer-and-healer. According to the victim, the actor was in a relationship with her since 2016 and he established physical relation with her on the pretext of marriage.
According to latest reports, a non-cognisable complaint (NC) was lodged by the woman against Karan in October 2018, accusing him of using her financially, while Karan, too, had filed an NC against her for mental harassment, ten days prior to her complaint.
An FIR has been registered under sections 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code at Oshiwara Police Station. The complainant, in her FIR, has said that the actor not only raped her but also filmed the act and demanded money from her, threatening to release the video if she did not pay up.
On the professional front, the accused actor has worked in several TV shows including, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, Inside Edge, among others. The actor has also appeared in advertising campaigns of FBB, Royal Enfield Riding Apparel, Aldo, Jack & Jones and Lamborghini. Stay tuned for more updates.
