For the uninitiated, TikTok is a media app for creating and sharing short videos. Owned by ByteDance or Beijing ByteDance Technology Co Ltd., it was first launched in China in 2016 as Douyin. It has been called “the Chinese lip-syncing app your kids love, but you've never heard of” as the burgeoning media app gained insane popularity in international markets where Douyin was launched as TikTok. Its video community has expanded further since the merger with Shanghai-based Musical.ly, who was also into creating and sharing short videos.

TikTok app users create short videos of themselves lip-syncing to songs or famous dialogues. They also act out comedy sketches, with a database of music, effects and sound bites as per their liking. Thanks to Tik Tok, everyone is becoming the King of Romance, by lip-syncing Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic dialogues or trying to beat Baburao from Hera Pheri in his own game.
