In an EXCLUSIVE chat with LatestLY, he said, "I think daily soap means constant work and constant income. Yes. No other medium offers the kind of money that people make out of television, for sure. Television is the most handsomely paying medium that we have. No wonder a lot of television actors who have issues with the format and who keep cribbing about television still take up work on television because people have to run their kitchens, right? People have to run their households. And not everyone has the luxury to choose from different mediums and say no to work on television that is coming their way." While there are many talented actors on TV, very few, like Barun Sobti, Ridhi Dogra or Mouni Roy, make a truly successful leap to OTT or films. Kanwar Dhillon says the medium is immaterial as long as the role and pay package is good. He said he does not find it disappointing to continue working on daily soaps despite getting acclaim for his histrionics. He also spoke candidly about how TV actors are openly discriminated against in some casting auditions for OTT shows or films.
He opines, "I don't dislike being a TV actor, but why can't we all just call actors actors? Do we call every film actor a film actor? No, we call an actor an actor. I don't have a problem with the label of being a TV actor, but many people in other mediums use it in a disrespectful or derogatory way. Television actors work equally or doubly hard to reach out to the audiences daily, with erratic schedules. We do not have the luxury of shooting one scene in a day. We shoot a lot of scenes in a day and still deliver quality. So, I take the label of a TV actor with pride, but at the same time, I think actors can just be called actors as well." Kanwar Dhillon is not the only one who feels this way. Hina Khan, Ashnoor Kaur, Madhurima Tuli and other actors too have highlighted the stereotypes attached to those working on TV. Indian TV is the biggest medium in the nation. Top TV stars enjoy a lot more on-ground popularity than B-grade Bollywood stars. Kanwar Dhillon said, "The reach of the TV audience is so large that it gives you immense fame and popularity, which every actor wants. I think television is the best medium out there, and if you know how to make the best of it, there is no other medium like television. And I'm proud that I started my journey as an actor on television, and I've literally learned everything on the job."
