Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum Review: Currently, Indian Television has little to offer apart from long-running family dramas, and comical supernatural shows involving naagins and witches. As an avid Indian television viewer for over 16 years, I find it disheartening to see how the illogical content-based shows are ruling TRP charts. At such a bleak time came a show a few months ago, which is like a breath of fresh air. It has bolstered my faith that “achche din” still exists at least in the world of Indian Television. Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum aka KHKT airs on Star Plus from Monday to Friday at 9 pm. This show has been created and produced by Sandiip Sickand under SOL Productions banner. It also marks the comeback of the lead actors Karan V Grover and Dipika Kakar Ibrahim, who have returned to the small screen after a gap of two long years. Makers of Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum Spoofed Indian Television Content and The Video Is Going Viral!
In KHKT’s first trailer, Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan introduced the show as a unique love story between a successful heart surgeon Dr Rohit Sippy (Karan) and popular actress Sonakshi Rastogi (Dipika).
Anyone who has closely followed Indian TV will agree that no matter how special the promos, the real verdict can be passed only when the show goes on air. But KHKT has been consistently delivering quality entertainment, filled with realistic episodes, and has been exceeding our expectations.
This show is also a huge hit on social media and has been getting good numbers on the TRP charts, speaking volumes about the show’s popularity. Saif Ali Khan Takes Up Stand Up Comedy! Just to Introduce Dipika Kakar and Karan V Grover’s New Show Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum – Watch Video.
But the show is more than just a love story. KHKT satirises Indian television through Sonakshi’s character and is probably the only show to do so.
A clip from this show went viral where Dr Rohit is left aghast at how Parvati (a character played by Sonakshi in the fictional show Kahaani Parvati Ki) saves her onscreen husband’s life by performing a surgery even though she isn’t a doctor.
Watch the viral clip below:
The show also throws many metas through Sonakshi’s character. It portrays how stars are affected by the scandals, and how their careers can end even if they are innocent.
Actors are often blamed when something goes wrong in the show’s storyline, because it is believed that actors know about the story much in advance. KHKT shows that even actors get to know about the storyline of shows at the time of the shoot.
KHKT also shows how many popular stars get replaced due to either scandals or tiffs with PH or channel. The show also humanises television actors by showing how inconsiderate fans can be.
When Sonakshi’s mother was in the ICU, a fan who adores Parvati, insists Sonakshi (who was heartbroken due to her mom condition) that she take a selfie with her. And when Sonakshi politely declines, the fan behaves rudely with her.
KHKT also gives us an insight into the problems of the medical community, showing us the struggles of doctors. Although there are many shows where the character plays a doctor only for name’s sake, KHKT’s Dr Rohit is shown doing his duties as a medico.
KHKT also deserves praise for how progressive it is. We have a female lead who is capable of holding her own and not wait for the hero to come and save her. A parent tells another to give some space to their son as he’s a grown man and does not need his mom’s help. The male lead believes women are strong enough to handle their situation.
Although rich, the Sippy family members are portrayed as down-to-earth, and not scheming or plotting against each other. The women of the Sippy household are modern, understanding, progressive and friendly instead of being stereotypically manipulative and conservative.
Also in terms of storytelling, KHKT is progressive without dragging the plot for too long. Except for a few scenes like the fashion show track, which got stretched. And the efforts of makers to close every loophole in the plot is commendable.
And a special mention to writers for the epic one-liners they give to characters, especially Rohit. But the best part of this show has to be the relationship between him and Sonakshi. It’s refreshing to see the relatable lead characters dealing with everyday problems. Their scenes together are always a treat to watch, be it funny or romantic.
Also, unlike other shows, misunderstandings are NOT stretched for months, and that’s simply because there’s communication between the characters.
Credits go to both Karan and Dipika, two powerhouse talents who leave no stone unturned to make Rohit and Sonakshi relatable. The chemistry is effortless; no wonder why 'RoNakshi' is getting popular on social media.
All said and done, the show does have a few flaws like the clichéd relationship between two characters, Rohan and Pari, which they could have avoided in the first place. In some scenes, the drama does get stretched.
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, do watch Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum if you want to see something different on Indian TV right now. The show has till now kept its promise to its viewers of being different.
