Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha's latest Netflix series, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, has received a positive response from viewers; however, it has encountered some other problems. The series stars Vijay Varma, Naseerudding Shah, and Dia Mirza in the lead roles. Comedian and television personality Rajiv Thakur, who rose to fame with the show Comedy Cirkus, also plays a pivotal character in the film. The mini-series, consisting of eight episodes, is based on the gripping real-life story of the 1999 hijacking of the Indian Airlines flight IC 814 by Pakistani-based terror outfit Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, which remains the longest hijacking in Indian aviation history. ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’: Government Summons Netflix India Content Head Over Controversy Surrounding Web Series.

Coming back to Rajiv Thakur, the actor known for his witty and humourous portrayal on-screen surprised everyone with his role as one of the five hijackers (terrorists) in the series. He played the hijacker named Chief in the Netflix series. In an interview with News 18, Rajiv Thakur opened up about his role. He said, "I've always loved making people laugh, but I knew I had more to offer as an actor. When the opportunity to play the antagonist in IC 814 came along, I saw it as the perfect challenge."

IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack is currently embroiled in a huge controversy after its premiere on Netflix. Many users who saw the series pointed out non-Muslim names of the hijackers, later calling for a boycott of the series. The terrorists shown in the series are addressed as Chief, Doctor, Shankar and Burger which were the codenames given for the operation.
