‘House of the Dragon’ S2: Will Rhaena Targaryen’s Team Black Claim Sheepstealer As Their Dragon in Next Season of Matt Smith-Phoebe Campbell’s Fantasy Drama Series? Here’s What We Know
One burning question keeping 'House of the Dragon' fans on edge is whether Rhaena Targaryen will finally claim Sheepstealer in the next season. In the book, Will Season 3 reveal if Rhaena will achieve her long-awaited dragon dream?
Rhaena Targaryen, Daemon's daughter with Laena Velaryon, has always been in her sister Baela's shadow—Baela’s out there soaring on Moondancer while Rhaena's left on the ground. No dragon ever hatched from Rhaena's egg, and let’s face it, her quiet, modest demeanour doesn't scream “dragon rider.” In the latest episode of House of the Dragon, The Burning Mill, the stakes are high as the Greens and the Blacks prepare for war. Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) sends her stepdaughter, Rhaena (Phoebe Campbell), to the Vale to protect her children—Joffrey, Aegon, and Viserys. It’s a bitter pill for Rhaena, who is frustrated at being the only Targaryen without a dragon to her name. ‘House of the Dragon Season 3’ Release Date: Here’s What We Know About Matt Smith’s Fantasy Drama Series.
But hold on—there's a twist. Rhaena’s journey isn’t just a babysitting gig; she’s carrying four dragon eggs with her. According to Fire & Blood, one of these might finally hatch, giving Rhaena her long-awaited dragon. If this dragon, named Morning, does come to life, it could be a game-changer for her status in the war. So, will Rhaena finally get her dragon? Stay tuned.
Will Rhaena's Team Black Claim Sheepstealer In S3?
The House of the Dragon Season 2 finale had its fair share of dramatic moments, but one standout was Rhaena's encounter with the wild dragon Sheepstealer. In Episode 6, Rhaena discovers the dragon’s presence after finding a charred area littered with burnt sheep. Sheepstealer, one of the three wild dragons never claimed in Westeros, had only been hinted at before. By the finale, Rhaena finally came face-to-face with him.
Did the Girl Get Her Dragon in the Book?
In George R R Martin's Fire & Blood, Rhaena Targaryen did get a dragon, but it was ill and died soon after. However, just before the Westerosi Civil War, she was gifted another dragon egg from Syrax. This time, a pale pink-scaled baby dragon hatched, and Rhaena named her Morning. Interestingly, Morning was the only Targaryen dragon to survive the Dance of the Dragons, thanks to her non-participation in the war. ‘House of the Dragon’: From Rhaenyra’s Syrax to Addam’s Seasmoke, Know All Dragons and Their Dragon-Riders Before Heading to Season 2 Finale (SPOILER ALERT).

Who Claimed Sheepstealer in the Book?
In Fire & Blood, Sheepstealer was claimed by a young girl named Nettles during the Sowing of the Seeds. However, in House of the Dragon, Sheepstealer and Nettles are absent as of Season 2. During the Sowing, Sheepstealer was notoriously deadly, killing more claimants than Vermithor, Seasmoke, and Silverwing combined. Notable characters who tried to claim Sheepstealer included Silver Denys, who sought Vermithor in the show’s Sowing, and Alyn Hull, Corlys Velaryon’s illegitimate son.
