The finale of House of the Dragon Season 2 premiered on August 4, 2024 (August 5 in India), and it was a rather subdued episode, quite a surprise from the usually hot-n-happening finales of Game of Thrones and even the previous season of HOTD. In fact, the penultimate episode of House of the Dragon season 2 had more exciting stuff and deaths than the season finale. The finale episode instead allows characters to choose their sides and loyalties as Team Rhaenyra is all set to face Team Aemond with new dragon riders. Among such side-takers is a new character introduced in the episode, Sharako Lohar, played by Abigail Thorn. ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 Finale: From Daemon’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Vision to the Final Battle Prep, Decoding Events of ‘HOTD’ S2 Episode 8 and What To Expect in Season 3.

Sharako Lohar is the chief of Triarchy's fleet, and they are introduced after Tyland Lannister goes to meet them at the behest of Aemond Targaryen to fight for Aegon. They agree on two conditions - one, they need control of the stepstones, and two, the captain of the fleet - Lohar - must sail with him. To Tyland's surprise, Lohar doesn't turn out to be a man as he had expected. However, the episode also doesn't make it clear the exact gender of Sharako Lohar, since Thorn is a transgender actress, so we assume the character is also the same. We hope JK Rowling is not a Game of Thrones fan, or we will end up seeing more of her annoying anti-trans tirade for a week.

Abigail Thorn Joins House of the Dragon Cast

Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, the 31-year-old actress first made a name for themselves as a YouTuber. In lieu of the increasing rise of tuition fees in the UK, Thorn started their YouTube channel called Philosophy Tube in 2013, where they held online classes teaching philosophy to her subscribers, which extended to the works of philosophers like René Descartes and Immanuel Kant. Eventually, they moved to other subjects, including mental health and current issues. If you check their YouTube channel, you can see they cover several sociopolitical issues, from Islamophobia to vaccines and censorship and even more.

Thorn came out as a transgender woman in 2021 through X and their YouTube channel, giving a statement regarding their coming out and the issues faced by the queer community in society. Their YouTube video emphasising their coming out through playacting went quite viral.

Thorne is also an accomplished theatre actress, and they have won awards in Off West End Theatre Awards and BroadwayWorld UK / West End Awards. For their work for the queer community, Thorn got the Online Influencer award at British LGBT Awards.

Regarding their onscreen acting work, Thorn's acting credits are all on television save for a filmed version of their stage play The Prince. They appeared in four episodes of the 2021 BBC series Ladhood and Noomi Rapace's 10-episode series Django. Earlier this year, they were also in the Star Wars spinoff series The Acolyte, which recently concluded its first season on July 16, 2024. They played the character of Ensign Eurus in two episodes.

Who is Sharako Lohar?

Sharako Lohar is the roguish Lysene commander of Triarchy, which is an alliance between the Free Cities of Lys, Myr, and Tyrosh. Lohar initially doesn't take a liking to Tyland Lannister and refuses to sail with him until he has proven himself to be capable. For that, he had to mud-wrestle Lohar. He first gets beaten by them before he lands punches on their body, thus earning their respect. During the celebratory feast afterwards, Lohar declares their intent to sail with Tyland, much to his relief. However, Lohar has another request. Impressed by his 'virility', Lohar wants kids with him, but he doesn't have to sleep with Lohar, but their wives. Tyland asks how many wives Lohar has - a question that doesn't get answers from the viewers. They are later seen sailing together with the intent to defeat Corlys' fleet. ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 Ep 8 Reactions: Netizens Are Disappointed With the Action-Less Season Conclusion, Call It ‘A Waste of Time’.

In the books, Lohar is a male character. Commanding the fleet under the banner of Three Sisters in what is deemed to be the bloodiest sea battle in the history of Westeros, he emerges victorious in beating Corlys' blockade. However, his tactics to win the battle don't bode well with his allies, resulting in another battle called Daughters' War, which ends up destroying the Triarchy. Though Lohar survives both battles, he eventually ends up being murdered by a rival. Let's see if the Lohar character we see in the HOTD series also ends up meeting the same fate as the character in the book.
