‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2: Rhaenyra and Mysaria’s Same-Sex Kiss in Episode 6 Surprises Fans; Here’s How Netizens Reacted to Emma D’Arcy and Sonoya Mizuno’s Passionate Smooch!
There is no such kiss in the books, though 'House of the Dragon' has never been a stickler to George RR Martin's works, According to actress Sonoya Mizuno, it was an unscripted moment suggested by her co-star.
The sixth episode of House of the Dragon landed on Max and JioCinema on 22 July 2024. It was a quieter episode compared to the previous ones, but that doesn't mean it was devoid of surprises and violent deaths (RIP Ser Steffon Darklyn!). The most shocking twist occurs in the final moments of the episode. During an intimate, heartfelt conversation about failure and sexual abuse, Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) and her new advisor, Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno), share a passionate kiss before being interrupted by one of Rhaenyra's men, who comes bearing shocking news. ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2: Daemon Targaryen Has Incestuous ‘Sex Dream’ About His Mother Alyssa Targaryen, and Internet Is Understandably Creeped Out!
While the kiss may come as a shock to some, the House of the Dragon episode, titled "Smallfolk," has been hinting at the increasing attraction between the women in the scenes before. While Game of Thrones has not shied away from same-sex relationships, such relationships often spelt doom for one or both characters involved. Mysaria, you better watch out. Additionally, Mysaria was once Rhaenyra's husband Daemon (Matt Smith)'s concubine. However, this is hardly the most complicated relationship in a show where a niece marries her uncle, and a brother is married to his sister.

The Lesbian Kiss Emma D'Arcy and Sonoya Mizuno Wasn't Scripted
Interestingly, in an interview with The Wrap, Sonoya Mizuno revealed that the lesbian kiss wasn't scripted. Fans who have read George RR Martin's 2018 book Fire & Blood, on which House of the Dragon is based, can confirm this. The kiss was suggested by Emma D'Arcy, who identifies as non-binary in real life. ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 Episode 5 Ending Explained: Did ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel Just Hint at ‘Dragonseeds’? We May Have Already Met Them!
Talking more about the kiss, Mizuno said, "It wasn’t scripted as a kiss. I think it was scripted as... there’s just breath between them or something, and then whatever happens is interrupted. Because we were separate in the room... Mysaria has told this story, (Rhaenyra) felt the instinct to hold her, to comfort her. From that, it felt so organic to go into the kiss."
It will be interesting to see how House of the Dragon handles this newly founded romantic relationship in the upcoming episodes (only two more remain for season 2). This development is especially intriguing with Daemon returning from his hallucinatory trips in Harrenhal back to his wife's side. By the way, are we all sensing something going on between him and the Harrenhal healer, Alys?
