Hina Khan As Komolika Joins Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra! 5 Times Baddies Overshadowed Protagonists Like a Boss!
So that was our list of favourite negative characters that gave good guys a run for their money in the films.
After days of speculations on Komolika’s character in Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2, Ekta Kapoor let the big secret out. Yes, yes, yes, it is Hina Khan who is playing the role of sexy, sassy and glamorous Komolika in Kasauti 2. The makers released an introductory video on Instagram, just like they had done for their protagonists – Prerna (Erica Fernandes) and Anurag (Parth Samthaan). However, the big difference is Hina Khan as Komalika in Kasautii Zindagii Kay reboot is receiving more love than the lead pair. Fans can't control their excitement seeing Bigg Boss 11 finalist in her new role - a negative one. This is not the first time when fans have gone gaga over a villain or vamp in comparison to good guys. Hina as Komolika joins the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh and more. Here’s how. Hina Khan As Komolika in the New Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2 Promo Will Make You Forget Prerna and Root for the Vamp.
Shah Rukh Khan in Darr
Shah Rukh Khan is every girl’s dream man. But before becoming the King of Romance, his characters were every woman’s worst nightmare. In Darr, the psychological thriller directed by Yash Chopra, SRK played the role of a psychopath who was obsessed with Juhi Chawla’s character. He stalked her, killed people to get close to her, wanted to marry her without consent! Yes, that bad. But Shah Rukh easily overshadowed film’s Mr goody-two-shoes, Sunny Deol easily. Darr is remembered till date for Shah Rukh Khan’s evil act.
Priyanka Chopra in Aitraaz
One Bollywood movie that was so ahead of its time was Aitraaz. The 2004-film on sexual harassment presented Priyanka Chopra in the role of a sexual predator who harasses Akshay Kumar’s character! Priyanka walked away with all the accolades for her brilliant portrayal of Sonia Roy. Yes, the movie also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan as Akshay’s wife and later his lawyer who proves him right and Sonia wrong. But it was Priyanka’s manipulative, scheming and villainous act that remains etched in our memories.
Saif Ali Khan in Omkara
Another example where the hero does a decent job, but the film’s antagonist is so good that audiences cannot help but talk about him more. We are talking about Saif Ali Khan’s Langda Tyagi in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2006 film Omkara. Despite Ajay Devgn putting up a fine show, Saif will leave your mind blown with his goddamn wickedness and cruelty.
Ranveer Singh in Padmaavat
Who can forget animal-like, gruesome and terrifying Alauddin Khilji from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat? Not us for sure. And the man who made the character unforgettable is none other than acting chameleon, Ranveer Singh. He was in such great form that audiences forgot the film was about Deepika Padukone in role of Rani Padmavati. And do not ask about Shahid Kapoor who played Ratan Singh, the hero of the film. Because all viewers wanted to discuss post-film was Ranveer as Khilji!
So that was our list of favourite negative characters that gave good guys a run for their money in the films. While Hina Khan has got off to a good start, receiving so much of love from fans, it will be interesting to see fan’s reactions when she begins with her villainy as Komolika in episodes. After all, daily soap viewers love to support the bechari, good-hearted protagonist and Erica as Prerna is doing that pretty well.
