Game Of Thrones Season 8 is giving us some serious panic attacks. After we saw the ending of the second episode with the army of the dead reaching Winterfell, we knew that the third episode will be a clincher in terms of survival of some of the main characters of the show. As the Battle of Winterfell unfolded, we bid adieu to some warriors such as Edd Tollett (Ben Crompton), Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen), Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) but what was shocking was that it was also the end of the Night King. Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) slew her dagger across the Night King's (Vladimir Furdik) heart and it was the end of him and the army of the dead. After all the theories of the lead characters turning into White Walkers, it was a surprise for fans to see the end of the Night King. What's interesting is that the third episode left certain questions unanswered and we can't help but think what truly happened and if it will be all revealed in the next episode. One of the key questions fans were left wondering was who was the Night King and what was his motive?
Who Was the Night King?
We bet after watching the third episode you were left wondering about Night King's identity. There sure seemed signs that the Night King indeed was a Targaryen considering he stood unharmed in the fire that Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) tried to burn him with after she attacked him with the help of her dragon, Drogon. He was already seen riding the Dragon before and thus, he does check the two boxes that hint at him being a Targaryen. We wonder if Bran Stark will now let us in on the actual story of the Night King in the upcoming episodes.Game of Thrones Episode 8 Episode 4 Promo: After Night King, Winterfell and Daenerys Targaryen Prepares to Battle Cersei Lannister.
Why the Army of the Dead was finished with the Night King?
If you remember, Beric Dondarrion during season seven’s confrontation with the White Walkers had suggested that the Night King was the one who sired other White Walkers and hence on his death, all those whom he had sired would also die. That is exactly what happened, as soon as Arya Stark stabbed the Night King, the rest of the army fell through.
Vladimir Furdik — the actor who plays the Night King had previously mentioned in an interview about the Night King's motive saying, "Somebody made him the Night King. Nobody knows who he was before — a soldier or part of [nobility]. He never wanted to be the Night King. I think he wants revenge. Everybody in this story has two sides — a bad side and a good side. The Night King only has one side, a bad side."
Well, we certainly think there is more to this and we hope to hear the actual story about the Night King and his history from the Three-Eyed-Raven aka Bran Stark in the upcoming episodes. What do you think about Night King's identity? Tell us in the comments below.
