Game Of Thrones Makers Finally Comment on the Coffee Cup Goof-Up in Season 8, Check Out What They Had to Say!
Game Of Thrones showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff recently gave their first interview almost three months after the release of the final season of the show. The makers were asked about one of the biggest bloopers from the show, the 'coffee cup' scene and here's what they had to say.
Games Of Thrones final season ended in April 2019 and it was one of the most disputed endings since several fans of the series remained unhappy with it. The makers remained unavailable for a comment on the same, even as social media went into a rage. Apart from the series' storyline, fans were also disappointed with the bloopers on the show such as the famed 'Coffee Cup' fiasco. For the uninitiated, during one of the episodes, a Starbucks coffee cup was spotted on the table in a scene starring Emilia Clarke. Fans were quick enough to point out the error and it resulted in the makers being heavily trolled. David Benioff called it their "Persian rug"." He said, "In Persian rugs it's tradition that you make a little mistake when making the rug, because only God can do anything perfect."
To which Weiss later joked saying, "That's why I put the coffee cup there. It was a conscious, concerted statement of our imperfection."Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 6: After Starbucks Coffee Cup Goof Up, a Plastic Bottle Makes an Appearance in Westeros.
Later, admitting to their mistake, Benioff said, "We were concentrating so much on Daenerys and Jon Snow that we just didn't see this coffee cup right in the middle. At first I couldn't believe it and then it was embarrassment, because how did we not see this coffee cup in the middle of the shot? Eventually, it was just kind of funny. Because this one is just a mistake and it's just kind of funny to us now."
The HBO show which premiered in 2011, released its eighth and final season in April 2019. The last episode of the series aired on May 19.
