Game of Thrones 8: Gwendoline Christie Aka Brienne of Tarth Says the Show Changed Her Life in an Heartfelt Note – View Pic
Gwendoline Christie is very grateful for the phenomenal opportunity and the incredible support from her Game of Thrones team.
HBO's American fantasy drama television series Game of Thrones, the adaptation of Martin's unfinished book series "A Song of Ice and Fire", has now concluded but the hangover is still there. After the finale episode, now Monday mornings might seem perpetually mopey and dull for most of us and we surely can't thank David Benioff and DB Weiss enough for such a beautiful show. Well, not just us but even the actors are not happy with the fact that the show has ended. On Tuesday, Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth in the show, took to the photo-sharing app to share a picture, that was taken on her very last day saying goodbye, along with an emotional note. In the picture, Gwendoline can be seen hugging of her friend Ciaran, who worked as an AD on the show and the first person she met on the sets. And her note read, "THANK YOU. There is no other way to start this. @gameofthrones has changed my life beyond anything I could have comprehended. Playing Brienne of Tarth has redefined the way I look at the world, women and particularly myself. I have never felt so exposed by a character, but happy knowing that those feelings of discomfort were about shaking off convention and embracing strength and authenticity.
Talking about the picture, the actress added, "This photograph was taken on my very last day saying goodbye to my friend Ciaran, he worked on the show from the beginning as an AD and was the first person I met on ‘Game of Thrones’ - he treated me with respect, kindness and great humour every single day. I shall miss seeing his smiling face in the misty dawn mornings, warmly welcoming me to set. I shall miss everyone that gave so much of themselves helping to create ‘Game of Thrones’; it was a privilege to work with such talented creatives, cast and crew."
Thanking the makers of the show for giving her this opportunity that has completely changed her life, Gwendoline also said, "I am just so very grateful for this phenomenal opportunity and the incredible support that you’ve all given me, all your kind words and cheer - it truly means a great deal to have been part of something so many of us have loved. My heart aches with how much I will miss Ser Brienne of Tarth. But what she has inspired I will take with me. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you." In the finale season, Gwendoline's character Brienne of Tarth was knighted by (her crush and our favourite Lannister) Ser Jaime Lannister (played Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). Talking about it with the channel, she had said, "It was a very powerful moment. It's very rare in GoT that a character is given something good, something they want. And for that character - Brienne has existed outside of the patriarchal structure of the show. She's behaved as a knight on her own terms."
She further added, "My reading of when she said, "I'm no lady," has never been that that's about shame. Yes, for the character there is shame, but there's also a rejection of traditional confines which has served her - and many women - no purpose. So the knighting of Brienne officiates something she has been doing with her entire life; it gives approval and, more than that, acceptance." Stay tuned to LatestLY for more updates.
