Fubar Series Review: It's always a pleasure to see Arnold Schwarzenegger in a comic role. He has consistently demonstrated that, aside from being skilled at punching people in the face, he also has comedic chops since his days on The Last Action Hero and Twins. And in Fubar, he gives it to us in spades, as his chemistry with Monica Barbaro is a series highlight. However, while that dynamic makes the show enjoyable, it's the uneven aspect that knocks it down so much. Fubar OTT Streaming Date and Time: How to Watch Arnold Schwarzenegger's Action-Comedy Series Online on Netflix.

Created by Nick Santora, Fubar follows CIA agents Luke Brunner (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who after completing a final mission looks forward to retirement and spending time with his family. Unluckily for him, another mission pops up and his retirement plans are cut short as he takes a detour to bring down a drug lord and extract another agent out of the field. What he finds there is that the agent is actually his daughter Emma (Monica Barbaro) and that the both of them have been lying to each other for years now. Not knowing what to do in the situation, the father and daughter then reluctantly team up together to complete their mission.

Arnold and Barbaro's relationship is what pulls Fubar forward. Arnold does what he does best and feels like a tank in this part, proving that even at his age, he can kick ass and give one-liners, and Barbaro's Emma is a humorous and stoic-presence who delivers comedy in a deadpan way at times. This duo is what ultimately shines in Fubar, as it is easily the best part of the eight-episode series. To join them is also the trio of Mila Carter as Barry, Fortune Feimster as Roo and Travis Van Winkle as Aldon, who are equally hilarious portraying the “people in the chair” for our CIA operatives.

The story is where the show ultimately falls apart. Fubar is a mixed bag in terms of its narrative because there is so much good over here, but it appears that the series isn't sure what it wants to be. It's almost as if it's going through an identity crisis since it wants to be a workplace comedy at times while also being a critique on the CIA. It's unfortunate since these two ideas can coexist, but Fubar just doesn't know how to integrate them well. Same goes for Diego Luna’s scene-stealing and unpredictable villain Boro, because Fubar doesn’t know how to incorporate him into the story.

Despite its flaws, Fubar does have some exciting beats in its set pieces and action, which are interspersed throughout the show. They do a good job of blending comedy and action, and it is in this concoction that Fubar is most amusing. The issue is how the show intends to get there, because the pacing of the episodes is a complete mess. Fubar Trailer: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Monica Barbaro Are a Father-Daughter Duo on a CIA Mission in This Fun Netflix Series (Watch Video).

There are a few episodes that are effectively paced, and then there are a few where so much is crammed in that following the story becomes a task, and then you just arrive at one that’s a chore to sit through. A little tightening of the script may have gone a long way towards making Fubar seem more consistent. It does feel like a disappointment in the long run because Fubar does showcase promise.

Final Thoughts

Fubar as a series is far from being fubar (f**ked up beyond any recognition), but so much of its potential is let down by a messy execution. Should you watch it if you’re a fan of Arnold? Maybe. But if you’re not that big of an Arnold fan, then you aren’t really missing out on much here. Fubar is streaming on Netflix right now.
