Kapil Sharma is sailing through some really rough waters ever since his onboard spat with fellow comedian Sunil Grover came into spotlight. The popular host and actor has been raking controversies after controversies over his irresponsible behaviour and his binge-drinking, not to mention the shoots he has been cancelling. Even a renewed innings with a new show, Family Time With Kapil Sharma, has not brought Kapil Sharma back on track.
Sharma made headlines once again when an abusive telephonic conversation of his and Spotboye editor Vickey Lalwani came into light. It has to be noted that it was Spotboye that broke out the news of Kapil and Sunil's inflight brawl. Ever since the conversation broke out followed by Kapil Sharma's abusive tweets, the actor has been cancelling more shoots of his show.
Now if a report in Indian Express is to be believed, Sony Entertainment television has decided to put Family Time With Kapil Sharma on hold till the host gets his act clean. This, despite the fact that, the show had got high TRPS. However, it is not just Kapil Sharma's behaviour that was the main point of concern. The report says that the channel feels the show has nothing new to offer and only rides on Kapil's immense fan-base. The report quotes a source close to channel saying, “See the first episode of Kapil’s latest show was nothing like its predecessor. It was a hotchpotch of too many things put in together for this 90s style game show. It only did well on TRP charts as Kapil has a very ardent fan following and was going to be back on television after a hiatus of seven months. So naturally, his fans did watch their favourite comedian’s new show but it lacked the punch that they expected. However, owing to personal issues, he had to cancel Rani Mukerji’s shoot and this left us in a lurch.”
The source further delves into the channel's decision to put the show on hold. "We did not have a bank of episodes to air as the show had just begun. Also, his health issues or personal issues has been deviating his attention and focus from work. In such a scenario, it is better that we keep the show on hold for now. At least the whole of April, we aren’t shooting. We will figure out the rest once he feels better. Right now, we want to him get better first. So that once he is back, he is completely devoted to work like he has always been," the source added.
Can't say we don't agree with the channel's stance on how they are dealing with the show. It is high time that Kapil Sharma get his act right and leave the controversies behind, at least for the sake of his loyal fans!
