Have you been wondering what to watch next after Game of Thrones and Chernobyl? Consider Dark. The German series on Netflix is a complete mind-numbing show that deals with time travel and also human psychology. Two seasons of the show have been released so far on Netflix. While the first episode is slow and will deal with establishing the basis, the show becomes intriguing with the second episode itself. To be honest, there had been a void among Game of Thrones fans after the show ended this summer. But if you have not yet watched Dark, you are missing out on a splendid saga. Netflix’s the Witcher: The First Poster and Stills From Henry Cavill’s Fantasy Series Are Out!
This is not one of the shows that you can binge-watch. Even you can, it would be best not to as it plays mind games with the viewer. There is absolutely no limit to the kind of imagination the show can take you to. Dark, true to its name, is not one of those shows that will give you all nice and happy scenes. It's dark in its literal sense and is bound to leave you with shocks, questions, numbness and maybe even a headache. Stranger Things 3 Review: Critics Feel the Nostalgia-Filled Netflix Web Series Is Better Than Ever.
The German series has been co-created by Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese and is based on events in a fictitious town called Winden in Germany. It begins with two children going missing from the town and the turn of events after that leads to time travel, scarred relationships, lives, deaths, love, hatred and above all, to a nuclear power plant and a mysterious cave. It also has references to the Chernobyl disaster.
Watch: Dark Season 2 Trailer
The show requires utmost concentration on part of the viewer to get a grip on what's going on. You've got to remember what you watched in every scene to figure out what's happening in the further episodes. Each character holds significance and cannot be ignored.
Every single frame of the show has subtleness in the way it is picturised. Dark's not one of those horror shows that will scare you with sudden appearances supported with sound effects. The beauty of the show is that it moves the viewer, but in a very nuanced manner. Having watched series like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones in the past, I have to confess that I've never been that blown away by a show such as this. The show is entirely fictional, but it will leave you with instances and quotes that you can connect with in the real world. The actors of the show will give you no reason to complain as they take care of the minutest of expressions of their characters.
While Dark runs on some brilliant, unimaginable writing, the music is something that adds class to the series. The show, with two seasons out, has been critically acclaimed, has been compared with Stranger Things and is rated 8.7 on IMDb. The filming of the third and final season has begun and Season 3 is expected to be out by summer 2020. Watch this if you haven't had an adrenaline rush from a web series in a while.
