Actor Sabumon Abdusamad has won the inaugural edition Bigg Boss Malayalam. For those who are unfamiliar with Sabumon's work, he first gained popularity through Asianet's reality show, Tharikida. Interestingly, even Bigg Boss was aired on the same channel. That movie happened to be Nakshathrakkannulla Rajakumaran Avanundoru Rajakumari. It came out in 2002 and was directed by Rajasenan, known for his family comedies. Sabumon has a comic role in the movie, playing the sidekick of the main lead, and was credited in the film as Tharikida Sabu. That main lead happened to be Prithviraj Sukumaran, who also was making his debut in the same movie.

Prithviraj Sukumaran, interestingly, was supposed to make his acting debut with Ranjith's spiritual love story, Nandanam, that also came out in the same year. However, delays in shoot pushed Nandanam to the fag-end of 2002, making Nakshathrakkannulla Rajakumaran Avanundoru Rajakumari his first film. However, Nakshathrakkannulla Rajakumaran Avanundoru Rajakumari turned out to be a disaster at the box office.

The movie's failure did affect Sabumon's chances of making an impact as a budding comic actor. However, he later went to be a part of movies like Katha, Punyalan Agarbattis and Adi Kapyaare Kootumani.
