Bigg Boss is the mother of all reality shows that exist on Indian television, there are no two ways about it. The fact that the show is currently in its twelfth season and has extended its presence to Malayalam, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada and even Bengali says it all. The contestants, which has a mix of celebrities and commoners (from the tenth season) are locked inside a camera infested house for a period of over 100 days. They fight to survive as viewers derive pleasures out of their collective frustration, pain and the misery. The latest season, which saw Salman Khan return as the host for the ninth consecutive time features a good mix of celebrities from different walks of life and commoners, who have entered in pairs.
Former Indian cricketer S Sreesanth is one of the celebrity contestants on the high voltage reality show. It's not the first time that a cricketer has set foot inside the Bigg Boss house. But all the cricketers have not fared very well on the show. The very first season saw actor and former international cricketer, Salil Ankola as one of the contestants. However, he was eliminated right in the first week of the show as he violated the contract with Sony Entertainment Television (it was Sony and not Colors that aired the first season of Bigg Boss). Salil had signed a contract with Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms, which prohibited him from appearing on any other show by its competitors. Since it was a direct breach of contract, the makers threw him out of the house.
The channel issued a statement back then, which read, “We were shocked to hear of Salil Ankola’s prior commitments and contractual obligations from media reports. On confirmation that these news reports were true and that the court had restrained Salil Ankola from appearing on any television show other than the one he is under contract for, the channel took necessary steps as he was in violation of his contract with Sony Entertainment Television. Salil has therefore been evicted from the ‘Bigg Boss’ house.” Bigg Boss 12: S Sreesanth THREATENS to QUIT the Show After the First Task Gets Cancelled - Watch Video.
Vinod Kambli, who played for India as a middle order batsman too was one of the contestants in Bigg Boss 3. He too was evicted from the show in just two weeks. His eviction came as a shock to him. "It is really sad that all the honest people are getting voted out. I behaved inside the house just the way I am outside. I really don’t know what happened and why I was evicted,” he told Hindustan Times back then.
And then we had Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had a career spanning over 19 years in cricket. He entered the house in the sixth season of the show. Sidhu was too righteous to be in the Bigg Boss house. For the longest time, he refused to take part in the nomination process, as he found it to be unfair to nominate anyone. His stint was cut short as he opted out of the show owing to political commitment. His wife Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu, who is the Punjab Chief Parliamentary Secretary, requested Endemol Shine India and Colors to let Sidhu leave the house as he had to resume his party work with Bhartiya Janta Party. “I got a call from Gadkariji’s (BJP president Nitin Gadkari) office that my husband is needed for partywork. Modiji (Narendra Modi) really loves him, and probably he wants him to be present for the campaign,” Kaur told HT City. “We received the request from Sidhu’s wife to relieve him from the Bigg Boss house urgently so that he can resume work with his party,” the channel confirmed to HT.
So you see cricketers have had a terrible run inside the Bigg Boss house. Will Sreesanth manage to break the jinx? Well, considering he threatened to leave the Bigg Boss house in just two days, we can't really say.
