September 10, 2017 was one big day in the history of Indian Navy, for the defence minister of India Nirmala Sitharaman, flagged off an All-Women crew of Indian Navy female officers on an expedition to circumnavigate the globe. The group set off on a mission to travel the world’s waters on INSV Tarini and braved the odds of rough seas and other problems faced by sailors. The group, consisting Lt Cdr Vartika Joshi, Lt Cdr Pratibha Jamwal, Lt Cdr Aishwarya Boddapati, Lt Cdr P Swathi, Lt Shourgrakpam Vijaya Devi and Payal Gupta. Circumnavigating the Globe Was Difficult but Memorable Experience: INSV Tarini's Member

Over their 8-month journey, these women took halts at Fremantle in Western Australia, the Lyttelton port in New Zealand, Port Stanley in Falkland Island and Cape Town, South Africa. However, they were hit by a roadblock when a damaged steering gear, forced the crew to make an unscheduled stop in Port Louis, Mauritius for emergency repairs. INSV Tarini’s Six Member All-Women Crew Honoured With Tenzing Norgay Awards

And now, Nat Geographic will soon be releasing a documentary on their lives during their voyage. Titled Tarini, the 55-foot-long sailboat, the documentary will also be released on Hotstar as well.

The channel released the promo for the same on their Instagram.

Nevertheless, the crew made it back safe and sound and were welcomed at Goa by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba on May 21, 2018 after completing 21, 980 nautical miles journey.
