‘Agatha All Along’: From MCU’s First Lesbian Kiss to Kathryn Hahn’s Nude Scene, 5 Times Disney+ Show Pushed the Boundaries of Marvel Cinematic Universe

From nudity to same-sex kisses and more, we list five moments where Agatha All Along pushed the boundaries of what’s typically expected in family friendly Disney-backed MCU offerings.

The first season of Agatha All Along concluded on October 31, promising more adventures with Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) and Billy Maximoff (Joe Locke). While Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) shows have generally been mixed in reception, Agatha All Along, like its parent show WandaVision, stands as one of MCU’s best, thanks to strong performances, storytelling, and tone. This is especially impressive considering that it was a series no one initially anticipated. ‘Agatha All Along’ Review: ‘Kathryn Hahn Is Perfection’, ‘Devilishly Good Time’ – First Reactions Call ‘WandaVision’ Spinoff a Fun Return to Westview!

What’s more, Agatha All Along is perhaps one of the boldest projects MCU has ever attempted—if not the boldest. It also happens to be the most unabashedly queer. Remember the outrage among certain Marvel fans over a gay kiss in Eternals? Those 'fans' would find much more to object to in Agatha All Along, which embraces its queer identity wholeheartedly and has fun doing so.

As the first season comes to a close, here are five moments where Agatha All Along pushed the boundaries of what’s typically expected in Disney-backed MCU offerings.

1. Embracing Its Queer Identity

Agatha All Along is the only MCU title, across both TV and film, where most main characters are queer. In the past, the MCU has touched on LGBTQ+ themes—Phastos in Eternals was the first openly gay MCU superhero, Valkyrie was hinted as bisexual in Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, and Korg came out as gay in the latter. However, Agatha All Along is the first series in which its two leads, Agatha and Billy, are openly gay, alongside characters like Rio (Aubrey Plaza). The main supporting characters—Jennifer, Lilia, and Alice—are also hinted to be queer.

2. MCU’s First Female Nude Scene

MCU has experimented with nudity before, such as Thor (Chris Hemsworth) showing off his backside in Thor: Love and Thunder. Agatha All Along, however, features the franchise's first female nude scene, with Kathryn Hahn baring her backside in a humorous moment.

3. MCU’s Second Gay Kiss

The kiss between Billy (Wiccan) and his boyfriend Eddie (Miles Gutierrez-Riley) marks MCU’s second on-screen gay kiss, the first being between Phastos and his husband in Eternals‘Agatha All Along’ Episode 5: Who Is Wiccan? 4. MCU’s First Lesbian Kiss

Agatha All Along portrays Agatha and Rio/Death as former lovers, filled with sexual tension and flirtatious exchanges. In one scene, they nearly kiss, and in the penultimate episode, Agatha finally kisses Rio—though it turns out to be the “kiss of death.” This moment marked MCU’s first lesbian kiss between two female leads (excluding Netflix’s Marvel shows).

5. MCU’s First Birthing Scene

The show also has the distinction of featuring live-action MCU’s first birthing scene, presented without excessive graphic detail, as Agatha delivers her son, Nicholas, in the final episode.
