Bollywood films are known for their song and dance routine. Other than the glam quotient they exhibit, it is the songs, upbeat music which keeps us entertained throughout. It is rare to think of a film without a song in it. Off late, music composers have found treasure in recreating good old music with newer additions for the next generation. For someone who has grown up on the original ones, may not find these remakes appealing but such songs go hit nonetheless. Over the last year as we saw some remakes we saw a lot more old songs being churned out differently in different movies. Today let us take a look at the songs which were remade and did they work well.

1. Laila Main Laila (Raees)

This song from Qurbaani was originally a hit so there was no doubt it would be a hit once again when remade. More so when we had Sunny Leone, the item number shaking her body on it. Shah Rukh Khan being the lead, along with Sunny even for a while had all the elements for a hit remake. Sunny Leone has proved even before she is perfect for such groovy songs and that worked for Laila Main Laila. In fact, this song became a major highlight of the film Raees. The song got close to 300mn views!

2. The Humma Song (Ok Jaanu)

At first hearing, the remake of popular A R Rahman's Humma Humma from Bombay seemed a mistake. But eventually on hearing more of it and watching Shraddha Kapoor move her waist so swiftly to the newly added beats in the song, only added to its experience. The rap by Badshah was not favoured by many but Humma song became a popular club song from 2017. It had more than 200mn views.

3. Tamma Tamma (Badrinath Ki Dulhania)

The original song from the film Thanedar had Madhuri Dixit, the dancing diva so recreating it for the newer generation was no easy task. But when you have a loved pair of the younger generation, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, both of whom are great dancers, not much could go wrong. The song’s remake was extremely loved and welcomed since it mostly retained its old charm. In fact, even Madhuri had appreciated the remake, so it already had an expert’s validation to it.

4. Saara Zamana (Kaabil)

The film Kaabil could have very well paced even without this remake.  We saw Urvashi Rautela groove and twirl in all the lights similar to this original song from the film Yaarana. But honestly, it was the original which still remains preferred over this remake. We would any day prefer Amitabh Bachchan in a light suit.

5. Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast (Machine)

The film Machine did not do well but became popular because of the remake of this popular song from the film Mohra. The choreography of the song was extremely good but it did not connect as much with the people. The original was a bigger hit and not many people were happy about this remake.

6. Tan Tana Tan (Judwaa 2)

Judwaa 2 since was a remake of the original film, retained some of the original songs. Tan Tana Tan was an extremely popular number and even till date by true old song lovers. However, the remake did try to maintain the originality as well as adding up some new beats to it. But comparatively the song was not that popular. It has barely close to 80mn views.

7. Oonchi Hai Building (Judwaa 2)

Another favourite from Salman Khan’s Judwaa this song already had a competition from the same film’s another remake Tan Tana Tan. However, compared to the originals both the songs were hits but not as favoured.

Somehow every music director seems to be appealed by the good old music to add their own element to it and recreate it for the newer generations. Some added rap, some changed lyrics, some enhanced it with a lovely choreography and we saw these songs being remade in 2017. But personally, we think Bollywood should explore new music trends and give a variety of songs to the audiences than to keep going back to the 90s and churning out our favourites. Because after all, old is gold.
