Sufi Singing Jodi Wadali Brothers' Pyarelal Wadali Passes Away in Amritsar, Music Lovers Mourn Loss

Music lovers will always remember Pyarelal Wadali for his soulful renditions of Sufi gems which he sang along with his brother Puranchand Wadali.

The famous sufi singer jodi (duo) of Wadali brothers, lost Pyarelal Wadali, the younger brother of the two legendary singers, who have enthralled audiences worldwide with their rustic and authentic renditions of sufi and Hindustani songs. The Wadali brothers named Puranchand Wadali and Pyarelal Wadali, who passed away today morning, specialised in Sufi songs and the musicians belong to Guru Ki Wadali in the Amritsar District in Punjab, India.

Pyarelal Wadali breathed his last at Amritsar's Fortis Escorts Hospital where he was admitted on Thursday. The Wadali brothers were born into the fifth generation of family of musicians who sang Punjabi songs inspired by the saints of India like Bulle Shah, Kabir, Surdas, Mirabai and Amir Khusro. The duo first performed outside of their village at the Harballah temple in Jalandhar.

Few people are aware that music was not the first choice of Wadali brothers. The elder brother Puranchand Wadali was a wrestler and the now deceased Pyarelal Wadali was interested in acting and played the role of lord Krishna in the village plays.  The duo was told to take up music by their father who insisted that they should continue the family legacy. And the rest, as they say, is history. The Wadali brother duo was adapt at singing various genres like Bani, Kafi, Ghazal and Bhajans.

The Wadali brothers had become a symbol of melody and harmony as their appearances on TV and other platforms brought joy among the fans. They also sang popular Bollywood songs such as Aye Rangrez Mere from Tanu Weds Manu, 2011and Ik Tu Hi Tu Hi from Mausam, 2011 among others. The sufi singing duo was really popular for their song Ankhiyan Udeek Diyan which was a favorite among the fans and the Wadali brothers were requested to sing the song everywhere they performed. Passing away of Pyarelal Wadali is a loss to the Indian music fraternity. Music lovers will always remember Pyarelal Wadali for his soulful renditions of Sufi gems which he sang along with his brother Puranchand Wadali.
