From months it has been confirmed that Tiger Shroff will be playing the male lead in the sequel to the 2012 movie, Student of the Year. While the first movie had one female lead and two male leads (Alia Bhatt opposite Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan), the sequel will have a solo male lead being wooed by two heroines. There has been speculations as to who would be cast as the female leads. Names like Disha Patani, Janhvi Kapoor (debuting now with Dhadak) and Sara Ali Khan (to be launched in Kedarnath) were mentioned. Even Miss World Manushi Chillar was touted as one of the candidates.
Now, as per a report in Mumbai Mirror, there is a speculation that Karan Johar, who is producing the sequel, has found his leading ladies in Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria. Ananya Pandey is the 19-year old daughter of actor Chunkey Pandey. She is quite popular in the party circuit and has a great following on Insta.
Unlike Ananya and Tiger, the 22 year old Tara Sutaria doesn't belong to any Bollywood family. She became quite popular among the youth with her breakout act in the Disney show Big Bada Boom. There was also a rumour that she was chosen as Jasmine in Guy Ritchie's live-action remake of Aladdin, a role that later went to Power Rangers' Naomi Scott. Karan Johar has reportedly auditioned close to 800 girls before he finalised Tara for the part.
However, there is no official announcement on this casting coup. So wait and watch for this space for an official update on this. When Karan Johar was earlier asked about Chillar's involvement in the movie, he had denied it and said, “There is no truth to the news yet. We are very proud of Manushi’s achievements. I was hosting the show the year she won, so I have met her before and I did see potential in her. I look forward to meeting her… I haven’t met her yet after she won the crown for India. But there has been nothing discussed yet."
Student of the Year 2 is directed by Punit Malhotra and will release on November 23.
