Tovino Thomas Reacts to Allegations by Director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan Over Stalling Vazhakku Release (Watch Video)

Tovino Thomas has recently been in the spotlight following serious allegations levelled against him by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, the director of his upcoming film Vazhakku. The director took to Facebook to accuse Tovino of attempting to stall the release of the film. In response, the 35-year-old actor has issued a clarification, addressing the allegations. Through a video post, Tovino revealed that filming for the movie concluded in 2020, and due to his strong rapport with Sanal, he agreed to co-produce Vazhakku, investing Rs 27 lakh in the project. He further elaborated on Sanal's desire to have the film showcased at prominent festivals, which allegedly faced rejection due to opposition from certain groups aiming to disrupt the plans, as per the director’s claims. Tovino Thomas also discussed the difference in opinion he had with Sanal Kumar Sasidharan regarding the film’s release, particularly when Sanal planned to sought another investor for a theatrical release. Tovino explained his skepticism about Vazhakku drawing large audiences to multiplexes due to its niche content, suggesting it would appeal more to a selective group of movie enthusiasts. Additionally, Tovino revealed his attempts to secure a digital release for Vazhakku, but encountered resistance from an OTT platform that demanded complete creative control, a condition Sanal Kumar Sasidharan was unwilling to accept.

Tovino Thomas Issues Clarification On Vazhakku Release

Tovino Thomas further revealed conversations he had with director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan in 2023 regarding an email received from the Mumbai Film Festival. Additionally, he disclosed how another OTT platform, initially agreeable to a deal, withdrew citing the criminal case against the filmmaker. Tovino also alleged that Sanal has made zero investments in the project. Feeling confused by this new side of the director, he remembered how people who worked with Sanal before had criticised him because of his actions.
