Toby is a Kannada action thriller directed by Basil Alchalakkal. The film stars Raj B Shetty alongside Samyuktha Hegde and Chaitra Achar in important roles. The flick released in theatres on August 25 and tells the story of an estranged man deemed to be a beast, who vows to break free from the evil world and transform himself for his daughter Jenny. Having said that, going by Toby's reviews, the movie has received positive reactions from critics with some even calling it the best film of Raj B Shetty’s career. The News Minute: "The film still bright because it manages to mask all the shortcomings with conviction. Raj B Shetty, as expected, leads from the front and imbues the entire film with what we are slowly coming to learn as his 'touch'. He gives his all to the role and is just incredible in certain moments, especially the tender ones featuring Toby and kid Jenny. If only the narrative wasn't slightly contrived and remained as innocent as his smile, Toby would have emerged as the film that it was always meant to be."

The South First: "More than the story, it is the performance of Raj B Shetty as Toby and others supporting him to good effect which makes it compelling to watch. But make sure you do not have anxiety issues of any kind and have some patience to wait for the powerful moments to arrive and leave you speechless in the end. God is good and so is the movie." TOI: "The movie doesn’t fit into any genre. It has a little bit of everything. However, the slow-paced narration is a huge setback for Toby that comes with a very predictable premise. There is no surprise element or an overwhelming experience. The climax passes off very ordinarily (thanks to the trailer!) without giving the audience a cathartic act. The film builds up a wonderful pre-climax only to fall flat towards the end."
