Thalapathy Vijay's highly anticipated action film, GOAT (The Greatest of All Time), has finally hit theatres, and early reviews are pouring in. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, this movie has been one of the most talked-about releases of the year. The film follows an elite agent who, after a successful career, decides to retire and embrace a peaceful, ordinary life. However, his past catches up with him when a dangerous mission resurfaces, forcing him to reunite with his former team to avert a catastrophic disaster. Based on initial reviews, GOAT has garnered mixed response from critics. HT: "The first half of GOAT is extremely engaging with the director setting up the stage for superb interval block that takes you by surprise. There is a lot of family drama and high-octane action in various missions around the world before the film hits the interval. Post interval, the film takes off with a face off between the Gandhi and Sanjay and the director tries to keep it fast-paced.
123Telugu: "The Greatest of All Time (The GOAT) is a standard revenge action drama that leans heavily on Vijay’s performance. His portrayal of the villainous Jeevan and the face-off scenes are the film’s highlights, but beyond that, it offers little in terms of novelty or excitement. The slow pacing, long runtime, score, and numerous plot holes make it a challenging watch for all but die-hard Vijay fans." The Economic Times: "Despite the lag in the middle, the final moments of GOAT or Greatest of All Time managed to redeem the film to some extent. The last 20 minutes, in particular, brought back the energy and drama, leaving audiences with a satisfying conclusion. While the movie followed a relatively predictable plot, its strong performances and climactic finish helped balance the experience, making the overall viewing more enjoyable."
Lensmen: "The Greatest of All Time is an over-ambitious film that depends too much on the fan power of Vijay to sell something generic and exhausting. One can definitely say that the movie has no dull moments. But there are no genuinely exciting moments too, in this cat-and-mouse game that exploits the Chennai Super Kings sentiments to cover up its hollowness. Even for the die-hard fans of the actor, this will be like a watch, clap, and forget kind of entertainer."
So, after reading GOAT reviews above, will you go and watch Vjay's film in the theatre?
