Tamizh Padam 2

Mirchi Shiva has returned to make fun of everything wrong with Tamil cinema, with his latest spoof movie, Tamizh Padam 2. The first film was a hit, with fans loving how the movie made fun of the regular tropes of their cinema, especially how the film-makers love to portray their leading men as superheroes.

The sequel, directed by CS Amudhan, also stars Disha Pandey, Iswarya Menon and Satish. The promotion campaign did a fine job of making fun of the latest Tamil blockbusters like Rajinikanth's Kaala, Ajith's Vivegam, Vijay's Sarkar and even 2.0. Now that the movie is out, the critics are claiming that Tamizh Padam 2 is damn hilarious, making potshots of all the recent releases and how the heroes these days are using social issues to advance their political ambitions. Special mention also goes to Shiva's performances and Satish's different getups. Check out what major publications are saying about the movie -

Indian Express says, "The best part of Tamizh Padam 2 is taking on tropes and subverting them, making relevant, valid points. A personal favourite is CS Amudhan’s take on the ‘loosu ponnu heroine’. One of Shiva friends says that the heroine basically has no choice but to fall in love with him. “You’re a hero. No matter if you stalk or pester her, she has to fall in love. “ “Adhu thappu Ilaya da?” asks Shiva, his baby face dripping with innocence. He gets guffaws of laughter as the answer. While the ‘mental’ angle could have been handled with more grace, the film makes a point."

TOI says, "The length of the movie and a couple of songs are clear drawbacks which spoil the flow for sometime. An interesting flashback portion, too, becomes a little tiring after a while. However, the film meets the overall expectation, thanks to the highly engaging performance by Shiva. After all, who expected that some of the "mass" scenes from varied films which were lapped up by audience could be shown in a funny manner. The background music helps in adding value to the humour-laced script while cinematography is decent. "

FirstPost says, "The film breaks all the age-old stereotypes in Tamil cinema and takes pot shots mercilessly at superstars like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith, Vijay, Suriya, Vikram and Sivakarthikeyan, and their memorable hits. In the second half, Baahubali is spoofed big time. Another scene has a photo in the background of Shiva being honoured by former US President Barrack Obama. There are also pop culture references and digs at Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) state party leaders and the ruling ADMK, and references to certain political happenings seen on news channels. "
