Malayalam film industry suffered a blow on September 17, 2019, when actor Sathar reportedly passed away at the age of 67. The veteran of Malayalam Cinema had been suffering from certain liver diseases and had been undergoing treatment for the same. He was admitted to Kochi's Palliative Care Hospital, where he breathed his last. Sathar was a very popular actor in the '70s and the '80s, where he was known for his anti-hero and negative roles. The actor had made his debut in Malayalam cinema with Ananvarnam, that has him as the lead. Some of his popular films in that era were Benz Vasu, Bheeman, Lava, Ee Nadu, Neelathamara, Visa, Panchajanyam etc.

In the '90s, he made a transition to playing character roles, along with playing minor antagonists in movies like Commissioner,  Aadyathe Kanmani, Arayannangalude Veedu, Vajram, Roudram, 22 Female Kottayam et al. He had also acted in some popular Tamil movies too.

Sathar's last acting role was in the 2015 anthology film, Onnum Onnum Moonu, which also starred the late Kalabhavan Mani.

Talking about his personal life, Sathar was married to the popular actress Jayabharati in 1979. However, they got separated later. Their son, Krish J Sathar, is also an actor popular in Malayalam and Tamil cinema, having acted in films like Ladies and Gentleman, Malini 22 Palayamkottai and To Noora With Love.
