Despite his political ambitions and the fact that his characters never bow down to political pressure in movies. Thalapathy Vijay may have to bow down in real life. His latest film, Sarkar, has invited the wrath of the ruling AIADMK government. Some of the ministers feel that the movie is insulting certain government policies of theirs, as well as trolls the late former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Law Minister Law C V Shanmugham had told the media, "The scenes relating to the burning of items disbursed under government welfare schemes amount to inciting violence. Whether it is the producer (Sun Pictures) or actor (Vijay), or theatres-- they will have to face action." AIADMK Workers Protest Against Sarkar Outside Theatres in Madurai, Chennai.

Now as per the latest update, the makers of Sarkar have agreed to take down the objectionable scenes and mute any reference to J Jayalalithaa. Thalapathy Vijay's Sarkar in Trouble After Tamil Nadu Minister Objects to a Scene in The Film.

The protests over the film have not gone down well with many Kollywood celebs, including Rajinikanth, who have come out in support of the film's team. They feel that a movie passed by the Censor Board should not be subjected to further cuts.
