The #MeTooIndia movement has gained momentum as various women afflicted by workplace harassment have spoken up. Right from actresses to journalists to media professionals, many have opened up and spoken about their traumatic experiences by prominent names in the film industry. For the longest time, they have been quiet about the issue fearing repercussions. However, that has finally changed with many of them taking on the system of patriarchy in the film industry.
On the same, Samantha Akkineni tweeted, "I am so happy that more and more women are finding the strength to say # MeToo. Your bravery is commendable. I am sorry though that some people, even other women themselves will shame and burden you with the question of proof and doubt. Just know that you are saving many little girls with your voice. Thank you. I support the #MeTooIndia movement."
The #MeTooIndia movement has spiralled not through investigations carried out (which had been carried out in Hollywood) but by the spontaneous outpouring of victims who have faced sexual misconduct in the workplace. Right after word about Tanushree Dutta's allegations against Nana Patekar, Vivek Agnihotri and Ganesh Acharya created a storm on social media, many women spoke about their bad experiences with famous individuals.
Samantha, on a working front, will be seen in Thiagarajan Kumaraja's highly anticipated film, Super Deluxe, which has been creating a lot of fervour! The movie also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, Mysskin and Ramya Krishnan in pivotal roles. The film is set to release soon.
