Ram Gopal Varma just can't stay out of controversies, can he? His latest movie, Officer, starring Telugu Superstar Akkineni Nagarjuna was considered to be a 'safe' movie going by RGV standards. And yet, the movie has landed in trouble over non-payment issues and finds its release date plans in a jeopardy. The movie was first supposed to release on May 25, but then RGV had pushed its release date to June 1. But thanks to Bombay High Court, it looks like the movie won't reach to the marquee even on June 1.
As per a report in Tollywood.net, The Bombay High Court has stayed the release of the film over the legal battle between RGV and YT Entertainment. The latter had sued RGV over non-payment of dues amounting to Rs 1.06 crores before the release of the film. It looked like RGV had settled the case by paying the due, and hence decided to announce the release date.
But going by the latest update, that doesn't seem to be the case, as the High Court has put an injunction of all the promotional activities of the movie, and its release till its next hearing. The hearing has been scheduled for June 7, as per the report.
However, going by RGV's latest tweet, either he has worked something around the Court order or he might not have got the notice.
Cinema is about a marriage of sound and visual and me and @iamnagarjuna are divorcing a series of sound moments from #OFFICER for the next one week ..The first one will be released tmrw at 10 am ..it’s called SHIVAJI

Even without the High Court decision hovering over it, RGV's Officer is not creating enough buzz pre-release, despite having a huge star like Nagarjuna in the lead. In a report in HT, a distributor told the publication, "Except Nagarjuna, there are no Telugu actors in the film. RGV is a very intelligent filmmaker, but it is a risky film for distributors. Sometimes he even makes films with a hand-held camera. If we put in Rs 2 crore, there’s no guarantee that we will be able to recover even half that amount. That’s why we haven’t bought the rights to RGV’s film."
Till now, there has been no official announcement on the revised release date plans. So we have to wait and watch!
