Director Ram is known for making highly acclaimed human dramas like Thanga Meengal and Taramani. This year, he brings us another fascinating movie in Peranbu. Malayalam superstar Mammootty is playing the lead in the moving drama about a man who has to take care of a girl suffering from cerebral palsy. Peranbu marks the return of the National award winning actor to Tamil cinema after a gap of 9 years. His last Tamil movie before this was the bilingual Vandae MaatharamPeranbu Teaser: Mammootty Will Stun You With His Amazing Display of Histrionics.

Peranbu also stars Saadhana, Anjali and transsexual actress Anjali Ameer. The movie had its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, where it got highly positive reviews. The same reactions were also received at other festivals. Now with its release in India, the movie has been garnering terrific reviews, with praise mainly going for Mammootty's performance and Ram's direction. Mammootty Birthday Special: These 5 Throwback Pictures of the Actor Will Take You Back in Time.

Check out what some of the major publications have to say about the film -

The News Minute says, "Anjali as Vijayalakshmi and Anjali Ameer as Meera get their own character arcs to leave an impact in the story, though the film undoubtedly belongs to Mammootty and Sadhana. Yuvan Shankar Raja's background score intrudes a bit too much in the scenes when Amudhavan and Paapa are getting to know each other."

Indian Express says, "Mammootty as a confused parent, Amudhavan, is his most natural self. It is amazing how a Superstar of his stature quickly sheds the glitz when given a challenging script. Sadhana tugs at your heartstrings as Paapa as she delivers her role with great aplomb. Her innocent face haunts you long after the film is over. How Meera becomes a part of Amudhavan’s life has been told poignantly, and it’s one of the brilliant climaxes ever written in the history of Tamil cinema."

Here's The Trailer of Peranbu

The Hindu says, "Peranbu is a rare film that humanises their issues, and drives home a necessary point: that it’s normal for differently-abled people to have sexual feelings. As a reviewer, it’s not my job to influence readers. But I know this is exactly what I’m doing now: if there’s one film that needs to be cherished on the big screen, it is Peranbu."

Behindwoods says, "Peranbu ends up as Ram's best and most detailed work till date. He has taken up a premise that very few films have taken, and has delved deep into it. I wonder if Tamil Cinema has ever had a story that speaks about the sexuality, and sexual life of a differently abled person, thereby making it really unique. On the other hand, Ram also shows the other side of the same coin, highlighting the difficulties that a caretaker undergoes in raising a differently abled child."
