Telugu actor and politician Pawan Kalyan has lost from Andhra Pradesh's Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram seats in Assembly Elections 2019. The actor who is a popular face in the Telugu industry founded the Jana Sena Party (JSP) in March 2014. In 2019 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election the party’s chief contested from two seats – Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram. The actor received over 38,000 votes while his close opponent Nagireddy Tippala won with 43,434 votes. Pawan Kalyan was also contesting for Bhimavaram constituency in the state, where he received over 56, 408 votes but lost to YSRCP's Grandhi Srinivas who won with 60,348 votes.

Before forming the Jana Sena Party, Pawan Kalyan had served as the president of Yuva Rajyam party, a youth wing of Praja Rajyam Party formed by his brother Chiranjeevi. However, that stint failed. The actor then continued to work in films and later in 2014 when Andhra Pradesh was split into two states, the actor formed his own party. Though that year his party stayed away from contesting in the elections, the actor-turned-politician had campaigned for TDP-BJP alliance and later withdrew his support. However, after his films went up for a toss, Pawan Kalyan again started focusing in politics actively.

It was in December that the Election Commission of India (ECI) approved of the Jana Sena Party and it contested in this 2019 general elections. Last year in May, Pawan Kalyan announced that his party will contest 175 assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh for the 2019 assembly elections. Andhra Pradesh went to polls during the first phase of the seven-phased elections on April 11, 2019. The southern state has 175 assembly and 25 parliamentary constituencies.
