Too much drama with a very predictable storyline is something that South films often have to offer. The film starts off with a romantic background with the boy and girl being of prime focus. Once the premise of the protagonist's romance has been established, the filmmaker moves on to a bigger challenge, the real conflict of the hero and how he tackles the same. Pailwaan also sees a similar strategy used to tell the tale. For the film, the makers roped in Sandalwood's megastar Kichcha Sudeep and brought Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty to play an important role as well. But did they manage to shine together and give fans a reason to visit the theatres? Well, read on to find out more. Pailwaan Trailer: Kichcha Sudeep and Sunil Shetty’s Sports Drama Is Intriguing but Also Gives Us Sultan Feels (Watch Video)

The movie opens with Krishna (Kichcha Sudeep), an orphaned child, who holds a lot of compassion for the other orphans who have been left to fend for themselves on the streets. He fights for them and earns bread and fruits. Touched by this sentiment and the lack of fear in his eyes draws him to Sarkar (Suniel Shetty), who immediately takes him home and makes him his own son. Everything is going very well for the father-son duo. As Krishna holds Sarkar to be his very own god, he goes through extreme lengths to fight against anyone who has bad things to say about him. To make sure that Kichcha (Krishna's pet name) is not strayed away from his goal of becoming the National Wrestling Champion, Sarkar raises him to be a celibate, much like himself. Pailwaan Quick Movie Review: Kichcha Sudeep and Suniel Shetty’s Action Flick Ends on a Sooryavansham Note in the First Half!

Everything changes when Rukmini (Aakanksha Singh) walks into his life. Of course, it is not love, that makes him lose Sarkar's faith in him but the fact that Rukmini's father insults him for running away with his daughter that brings a rift. Sarkar and Krishna's relationship is strained and he is asked to never show his face and quit wrestling as well. Once again, everything changes as Krishna, now a married man with a daughter, has to deal with his past. He has new ordeals to match with and win over because his goals are too strong and for a social cause.

Trailer -

The first half is literally taken out of Amitabh Bachchan's Sooryavansham as the storyline (except for the adopted son bit) couldn't have been different. While I did expect the second half to be better, it didn't really match my expectations. The second half has too many elements for Krishna to deal with which makes the plot rundown and hurried. Krishna has to first face-off with this King Rana because of his giant ego. Then next he has to participate in a boxing match to make money and help out underprivileged kids so they can achieve their dreams of becoming big names in sports. Finally, he has to achieve his father's dream of becoming a national wrestling champion. Give the man a break! There are a lot of bad things in the movie than good.

The direction is too terrible and there are flashback scenes that make you wonder what they're doing in the plot. The action sequences are good but could have been much better. The boxing match is the biggest drag in the entire film. Imagine sitting for literally 20 minutes just watching the main lead irk the opponent so that he will be tired and finally, the protagonist will have the power to smack his face. There are other ways of tackling such scenes too. If only the director S Krishna knew how! Luckily, the film's cast is strong and perhaps that is the only thing that will drive the audience to the theatres.

Yays

- Kichcha Sudeep's screen presence

- Suniel Shetty's act as the father

- Good music

- Good action sequences

- Entertaining wrestling matches

Nays

- Unnecessarily dragged final match sequence

- Very predictable storyline

- Terrible direction or rather lack of direction

- A very muddled second half

- Too many elements to tackle in the second half

- Long duration

- Bad fight choreography of the boxing match

Final Word

If you have a lot of time to kill then you can go and enjoy the film. You might not get something out of the blue or exciting to watch but at least the wrestling match sequences are worth watching. The film lacks in many ways but luckily, since the star cast is so strong with actors like Sudeep and Shetty, they make it work.
