If you have watched one-film-old director Karthick Naren's debut film, Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, you know he is a film-maker to watch out for. Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru was an intriguing mystery thriller, with many surprising twists and a shocking final reveal. Even though it had no commercial stars in the lead, the film earned high praise from the critics and was a sleeper hit. Naren's second film, Naragasooran, belongs to the same genre and looks to go the same path, going by its intriguing first trailer.
Naragasooran has interesting star-cast to speak of. Arvind Swamy and Shriya Saran play the leads, while the movie also stars Telugu star Sundeep Kishan (Bollywood fans would know him as the aspiring cricketer in the underrated Shor in the City) and Aathmika. There is also Malayalam star Indrajith Sukumaran in his third Tamil film.
The trailer, despite showing a lot of scenes of intrigue, doesn't give out much in terms of plot. We know that Indrajith is playing a cop investigating an accident, that somehow interlinks two couples, played by Arvind-Shriya and Sundeep-Aathmika. There are also a couple of references to Naragasooran. To see how these all are linked, we may have to wait for the film.

Naragasooran is the second movie in the planned thriller trilogy for Karthick Naren, who had once claimed that it will belong to the same universe as Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru. This definitely makes things more interesting.
Earlier the movie was in the news when the director accused his former producer Gautham Menon of deliberately delaying the film. During the trailer launch, Naren spoke about the controversy, as he said, "After D-16, I met Gautham Menon and he came forward to produce Naragasooran. Later, due to certain financial issues, he walked out of the project. What happened at that time was momentary and there is no problem right now. I don't wish to comment on anything else on this as TFPC (Tamil Film Producers Council) will be handling the issue." Naragasooran will hit the screens on August 31
