Mohanlal Faces Backlash on Twitter After Calling #MeToo Movement a Fad!
Mohanlal was earlier criticised for the way he and his AMMA lead committee handled the suspension of actor Dileep, an accused in the sexual assault of an actress in 2016
Mohanlal is one of the finest actors in the country alright, perhaps in the world too. I can assure you of this after having grown up see him perform so effortlessly in some fine films like Kireedam, His Highness Abdulla, Bharatham, Vanaprastham, etc etc. However, the National Award winning Malayalam superstar really needs to know when he needs to keep his mouth shut, when it comes to addressing sensitive issues, like #MeToo if he really doesn't know the seriousness of the whole situation. AMMA President Mohanlal Confirms Dileep's Resignation, Clarifies Stand on Alencier Ley, Mukesh's #MeToo Charges.
Mohanlal, who is currently the President of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), had stirred a hornet's nest in a press conference in Dubai, where he called the #MeToo movement in India a passing fad. He said, "There is no big problem in the Malayalam film industry. In fact, #MeToo is turning into something of a fashion. Anything like that will have a lifespan for a bit and will soon disappear. I cannot make a comment on #MeToo, you can talk about it only if you experience it. Otherwise, there is no point in commenting." #MeToo in Mollywood: Actor Siddique Calls WCC's Stand on Dileep a Conspiracy Against Mohanlal.
His comments certainly didn't go down well with the advocators of the movement, and they took to Twitter to lash against the actor for not taking the issue so seriously.

Mohanlal was earlier criticised for the way he and his AMMA lead committee handled the suspension of actor Dileep, an accused in the sexual assault of an actress in 2016, now on bail. The female-led Women In Cinema Collective (WCC) within AMMA has accused Mohanlal of being insensitive to their demands. With his big-budget film, Odiyan, all set to release in a few days, Mohanlal certainly doesn't need this foot-in-mouth kind of publicity, but then his hardcore fanbase hardly cares for his stance on such issues. Sadly.
