The #MeToo movement spread to the Tamil film industry. The first one to be accused of sexual misconduct was Tamil poet and lyricist, Vairamuthu. Accusations against him were made by an anonymous woman in the wake of the movement led by journalist Sandhya Menon. Later, singer Chinmayi came forward to lend support to more victims who wished to remain anonymous. She also shared her own story about sexual harassment. In an interview with Galatta.com, Chinmayi has said that she will file a complaint against the lyricist. Chinmayi has already released a video on social media levelling accusations against Vairamuthu, that revealed chilling details.

Vairamuthu has reacted to the accusations on his Twitter and denied everything. "The act of spreading rumours about well-known personalities is now all over the country. Many times, I have been constantly humiliated; This is one of them. I do not regard anything but the truth; only time will tell the truth." he wrote.
While most of the Tamil celebs have been silent on the Vairamuthu sexual harassment allegations, actor Siddharth has been lending big support to Chinmayi and the unnamed victims on social media.
