Mercury Teaser: Prabhu Deva is Downright Terrifying In This Unique Silent Thriller
Mercury will release on April 13.
Those in Bollywood who have not heard of the name Karthik Subbaraj, well, you should! This young tamil director is one of the most talented writer-directors we have in the country. Though he he may not have achieves box office success with every release of his, Karthik has managed to produce something special with every movie that he made. It was his debut movie, Pizza (that also inspired an inferior Bollywood remake by the same name), a unique horror comedy, that brought him to spotlight. His second movie, Jigarthanda, is his best work, and also one of the best black comedies eve made in Indian cinema. His last movie, Iraivi, underperformed at the box office, but it is still a good movie with strong themes of women empowerment. Now he returns to his horror roots with Mercury, his next with Prabhu Deva.
But knowing Subbaraj's work, it would be silly to expect anything ordinary from the director. And Mercury exactly lives upto that! It is a silent thriller that has Prabhu Deva in a negative role. Not just any villain, he is actually playing a zombie-kind of entity in the movie.
Now we have had silent movies before, with Kamal Haasan's Pushpak being the most famous example. But Mercury has a reason for its character to be silent. Going by the recently revealed teaser, it looks like silence is the only way the characters of this movie can survive the monster Prabhu Deva's wrath. Kind of reminds me of the upcoming Hollywood movie, A Quiet Place.

The teaser was launched by four top stars from four South industries - Dhanush in Tamil, Nivin Pauly in Malayalam, Rana Daggubati in Telugu and Rakhsit Shetty from Kannada.
Apart from Prabhu Deva, the movie also stars Sananth, Indhuja, Deepak and Paramesh, Shashank Purushotham and Anish Padmanabhan. Santhosh Narayanan is the music composer while S.Thirunavukkarasu cranks the camera.
Mercury will release on April 13.
