Malayalam film Pokkiri Raja had come out in 2010 and was a huge hit then. The pairing of Mammootty and Prithviraj as brothers was the film's biggest USP, while also establishing Vyshakh as the director to watch out for. Mammootty's Madhura-based don and his broken English were highlights in the film. Now nine years later, the superstar is returning to one of his massy roles for a sequel/spin-off based on this character, Madhura Raja. Madhura Raja New Poster: Not Prithviraj Sukumaran but Jai Sampath to Share Screen Space With Mammootty.

Once again, Vyshakh returns as the director, but Prithviraj won't be returning as the parallel lead (unless there is a secret cameo). Instead, it would be Tamil star Jai (Balloon, Goa, Chennai 600028) who will play the second lead. Madhura Raja marks Jai's Malayalam debut. The teaser features glimpses of the actions sequences in the film and also has some powerful dialogues. From the teaser, it sure seems that the film will be high on entertainment.

Apart from Mammootty, Madhura Raja will also bring back Siddique, Nedumudi Venu, Vijayaraghavan, Salimkumar, Suraj Venjaaramoodu from the first film. The new cast members include Shamna Kasim, Anna Reshma Rajan, Anusree, Aju Varghese, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Mahima Nambiar and Jagapathi Babu. Madhura Raja is aiming to release during Vishu 2019.
