Karunanidhi Breathes His Last: List of Movies For Which Kalaignar Wrote The Screenplay

Chennai, August 7: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President M Karunanidhi breathed his last on Tuesday at Chennai's Kauvery hospital. He was admitted there last month after his health deteriorated. The DMK Chief died at 6:10 pm on Tuesday due to multiple organ failure despite being given maximum medical support. While the Dravidian stalwart is majorly known for his contributions towards Tamil Nadu politics, he has donned several hats in his career spanning eight decades.

Karunanidhi began his film career as a screenwriter in the Tamil movies in 1947 at the age of 20. His stories often showed his socialist and rationalists ideas of Dravidian movement which he spearheaded in Tamil Nadu. Rajakumari was his first movie in which the late actor M.G. Ramachandran played the lead. The two men went on to become massively popular and subsequently political rivals. Karunanidhi has worked in over 40 movies with Ponnar Shankar starring Prashanth being the last one where was the writer. Jayalalithaa, another massively popular figure who passed away last year was one of his major political rivals.  Karunanidhi is survived by three wives and six children. He entered politics at the age of 14 and went to serve as Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister five times. Karunanidhi was born on June 3, 1924, in Thirukuvalai, Nagapattinam district as Dakshinamoorthy and was popularly known as Kalaignar. He has made a significant contribution in the development of Tamil Nadu and played some major roles role in national politics as well.
