Leo, the action thriller helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, hit the big screens on October 19. The film starring Thalapathy Vijay, Trisha Krishnan, Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Sarja in the leading roles has received positive response from the audience. Right from the beginning, there have been speculations that the film is a ‘remake’ of the Hollywood flick, A History of Violence. Earlier during the interviews, Lokesh refused to divulge details about Leo. Addressing about the film is a remake or not, Lokesh told Behindwoods, “I have been reading about these things from the beginning. Is this movie based on this or the remake of that? Or whether or not Leo is part of LCU. But, I have not answered these questions because I don't want my responses to disturb the theatrical experience of the audience in any way. Let them watch it with a fresh mind. The big suspense came to an end director Lokesh Kanagaraj began Leo by giving it credit to the 2005 film A History of Violence. This Tamil film, which is the third installment in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe aka LCU, following the events of Kaithi and Vikram, is inspired by David Cronenberg’s directorial that is considered as ‘one of the greatest films of the 2000s’. Film’s writer Josh Olson was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, whereas William Hurt, who played the character Richie Cusack, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

A History of Violence is an adaptation of John Wagner and Vince Locke’s graphic novel of the same name. The film was praised for the performances, gripping narrative and other technicalities. It stars Viggo Mortensen as Joey Cusack/Tom Stall in the lead alongside Maria Bello, Ed Harris and William Hurt.
